I have worked at VRDP for 8 years now and time really does fly when you are enjoying yourself. After qualifying from Leeds University in 2007, I spent my first vocational training year at VRDP, I loved it so much I decided to stay. I enjoy being a dentist because of the variety of work I am able to undertake and enjoy the opportunity of meeting many different people. I am especially interested in making the experience of coming to the dentist a pleasant one and I strive to help people feel more at ease in the dental environment. I believe in delivering a high standard of care in a relaxed and friendly environment. I am married to Andrew and have two children, Henry and Matilda. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, walking my pug dog Barbara, as well as baking and up-cycling furniture.

ASSOCIATE DENTAL SURGEON
GDC Number: 178616
I am a Newcastle University Graduate and following graduation I have worked in dental practice and in Newcastle dental hospital. I moved to Cumbria in 2014 with my family. I love my job and really enjoy each day at Victoria Road Dental Practice.
My particular areas of interest are working with patients who have dental anxiety and with children; although the variety of general practice is wonderful. From dentures to whitening and veneers every day is different! Alongside working at Victoria Road I also have a role at the Dental Education Centre in Carlisle as a clinical teacher for dental students studying at UCLAN.
I have had the opportunity to work overseas and travel to amazing parts of the world, however now my life is very much in Cumbria. I have 3 young children, a maniac labrador and a husband who teaches in Brampton. We find walking the fells and swimming in the lakes plenty to keep us busy outside work hours.

As the Managing Director of the company I look after the overall direction of the business and oversee developments to continually improve the care we provide at VRDP. This includes ensuring we as a practice remain compliant with current legislation, maintain our clinical governance, standards and oversee the growth of the practice and the services we offer, to ensure our patients receive the best level of service and care.
I am dual qualified Dental Hygienist and Therapist, and have had a career in dentistry for 28 years I have therefore witnessed many changes within the profession. Originally from Lancashire, I lived in North Yorkshire before relocating and settling in Cumbria with our extended family. I am married to Dominic and we have two children Charlotte and Henry.
ASSISTANT MANAGER/DENTAL NURSE
GDC Number: 106805
I first came to Victoria Road Dental Practice on work experience from school, instantly I found dentistry is very interesting and I enjoyed my week of shadowing all the different team members. A week or so later I had a phone call from the practice offering me a position of Trainee Dental Nurse to start in the summer of 2002.
I gained my qualification level 3 in oral health care dental nursing in May 2005. A few years later I decided to study for my certificate in oral health education qualifying in September 2008, this allows me to see patients and give oral health instruction and diet advice as prescribed by the Dentist.
In November 2012 I went on to gain another qualification in practice based prevention and fluoride varnish application, this allows me to give diet advice, and oral education advice to patients as well as also applying fluoride varnish to teeth. Victoria Road Dental Practice’s main aim is prevention and I enjoy passing on advice and knowledge in the hope that a small change in a patient’s lifestyle could prevent further treatment.
I am the practice infection control lead and coordinate the decontamination room to ensure strict regimes with regard to cross infection are adhered to at all time by all staff members.
In January 2015 I was appointed assistant manager to Heather Doble to aid the smooth running of the practice. I ensure that current guidelines, regulations and policies are all up to date. These change at a rapid speed and it is very challenging keeping ahead of the current advice but I love the challenge of helping to maintain the practices high standards.
SENIOR DENTAL NURSE
GDC Number: 112252
I joined the practice after leaving school in 1980 and started training as a dental nurse qualifying in 1985. After several years I was appointed senior dental nurse. In 2007 I gained my post qualification certificate in dental radiography and went onto achieve the City and Guilds Licentiateship Award in Dental Nursing. In 2008 I was elected a fellow of the British Association of Dental Nurses. As part of my role as Senior Dental Nurse I am involved with the training and acting as mentor to trainee dental nurses in the practice, which as well as assisting the dentists and meeting the patients is something I enjoy very much. Over the years I have seen many changes and I enjoy the challenge of putting these into practice to provide a high quality of dentistry for our patients.

Hello most people know me as Bex, I have worked at the practice now for nearly 15 years and have seen a lot of changes during this time. My duties as a dental nurse range from assisting and setting up the surgery for all types of procedures which includes general duties such as filing of record cards, developing and mounting x-rays, typing up notes from staff and nurse meetings which I do enjoy. I love typing!
I also enjoy teaching new trainee dental nurses the basic skills needed to assist clinicians and supporting them by helping with any questions or worries they may have if the senior dental nurse is busy. I like to meet new patients and welcome them into the practice and have a general chat with them, after 15 years I do know most of the patients well. I really enjoy working in the sterilisation room, organisation in the sterilisation room is key to providing all surgeries with instruments and materials all day without running behind. I think this is one of my strengths as I am a very organised person. Outside of work I have to keep an up-to-date record of continued professional development and attend courses and participate in online webinars and gain certificates through online learning, which helps keep me up to date with changes that always seem to be happening in the health care system.
I have recently been appointed Patient Safety Officer so that in the event of an incident involving patient safety I will investigate it to ensure the on-going safety and well-being of all patients attending VRDP.
Before becoming a qualified dental nurse I gained my HND Diploma first year primary school teaching and went onto do my NVQ level 3 pre-school child care. I find this very useful when working with children in the dental practice who may need treatment and are anxious about the treatment and need help with their care. I find my previous work experiences useful when parents who have young children/babies bring the children with them to their appointment, as they often need entertaining, I am able to put my childcare skills to work.
I hope that I continue to learn and develop further as a dental nurse as each day is different which is why I enjoy my job and have been a member of the VRDP team for the past 15 years.
I work as the practice receptionist and enjoy each day as every day is different. I love welcoming patients, representatives and visitors to Victoria Road Dental Practice with a friendly hello and a smile. I am the practice ‘Denplan Champion’ and I help complete the Denplan payment plan paperwork for patients. Another of my roles is practice Fire Marshall and I ensure that everyone is safe in the event of a fire.
I like to make sure that the oral hygiene products we stock are appropriate for our patients and includes the most up to date products available. This means that patients can be assured that the product they are purchasing are the ones recommended by our clinicians and most suitable for their individual needs.
I have been at VRDP for 15 years which is not quite as many as Linda, and have seen many changes over this time. I am really excited to be involved in the future of VRDP especially the introduction of more modern technology and the implementation of new marketing initiatives.
